About the Author
Joshua Jih Pan, FAIA, is Founding Principal of J. J. Pan and Partners, Architects and Planners. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Cheng Kung University in Taiwan in 1963. He subsequently received his professional degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas in 1966 and Master of Science degree in Architecture/Urban Design from Columbia University the following year. He then worked at the firms of Philip Johnson & Richard Foster; Davis, Brody & Associates in New York; and Collins Uhl Hoisington Anderson in New Jersey. He obtained his US architect license in 1972 and Taiwanese license in 1977, and founded J. J. Pan and Partners in 1981. The firm has since completed over 600 projects and received scores of domestic and international design awards, along with numerous appearances in professional publications. He was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects in 1994 and received Taiwan's prestigious 'Outstanding Architect' Award in 1996, China's Class-1 registered architect qualification in 2009, the Outstanding Alumnus Award of National Cheng Kung University in 2013, and National Award for Arts in 2016.
