Rabindranath Tagore: His World of Art focuses on the artist’s world, including cultural influence, visual development and use of color both in his art and in his writing. It features his work in the context of German Expressionism, his role in the development of a modern art in India, his idea of aesthetics and its introduction into Santiniketan as well as accounts of his exhibitions and his interaction with the global art world. This volume traces the course of the artist’s life; his paintings are discussed chronologically, his unique perspective is reflected throughout his writing, and has now been translated from Bengali into English. A brilliant insight into his life and influences and the impact that his work has within the international art scene.

About the Author
Supriya Roy has worked in Rabindra-Bhavana, the Tagore Archives and the Research Centre of Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, as a librarian and archivist for three decades. She has been series editor for the Tagore Travelogues for Visva-Bharati (2011), she was curator of a recent exhibition on Rabindranath in Kuala Lumpur and other Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) exhibitions which have traveled all over the world. Sushobhan Adhikary is an artist, art historian and art-restorer; at present, curator of the Kala-Bhavana Museum at Visva-Bharati. He has written extensively on Indian art; he was awarded the Ananda Puraskar in 1997. Along with Supriya Roy, he has curated the Rabindranath gallery in Mauritius and, in 2000, they jointly curated an exhibition of paintings by Rabindranath at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai.
