Joan Miró

Sculptures

Joan Miró (1893 – 1983) was one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. The Catalan grandmaster broke artistic boundaries by, among other things, interweaving painting with poetry. His surrealist representations are full of mysterious signs and symbols. This boundless imagination also characterizes Miró’s sculptures.

It was on the beach near his studio that Miró’s love of sculpture received a great boost. The natural objects that the artist found there were an important source of inspiration for his sculptures. It is therefore particularly fitting that his three-dimensional work is now exhibited near the sea.

Thanks to a close collaboration with renowned museum partners and public and private collections, 55 large and small sculptures by Miró are on display.  Joan Miró – Sculptures highlights  his experiments with ceramics, studies in plaster, assemblages and monumental public works. They represent his ongoing search for new ideas, materials and techniques.

The retrospective exhibition is organised in collaboration with the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona. An accompanying catalogue discusses, among other things, Miró’s working methods and the symbolism of his sculpture.
