Lita Cabellut – Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Spain

30 Oct — 26 Jan 2025

Inspired by Goya’s Disparates, the multidisciplinary artist Lita Cabellut presents this exhibition that shows the views of both artists on the human condition, expressed through different artistic languages.

In Goya x Lita Cabellut . Los Disparates. “Miserable humanity, the fault is yours,” Goya’s Disparates and Cabellut’s meticulously arranged pieces, far from being a simple visual display, are presented as an intellectual immersion that challenges the observer to explore the underlying historical and cultural synergies between the works of these two artists, thus stimulating a deeper and more participatory appreciation of the conceptual richness that emanates from this artistic dialogue.

This encounter with Goya has led Lita Cabellut, from a humble perspective, to understand that the conceptual, aesthetic and emotional concerns and inclinations of the Aragonese master were always present in his work from the beginning. This amalgam of thoughts and visual forms is presented as a journey, where the essence of artistic creation is unravelled and the complexity inherent to aesthetic understanding is embraced.

The intricate dialectical symphony between two creators from different eras highlights the complexity of the intellectual process underlying the interpretation of their works. The conceptual and artistic confluence between these two expressions is fertile ground for a deep investigation of the essence of the exhibition, the elaboration of which involves the convergence of both arbitrary thoughts and the synthesis of not so obvious codes, thus challenging the cognitive capacity of the spectator, but at the same time with an evident sensory stimulus.

In the words of the exhibition curator, Eloy Martínez de la Pera: “Two perspectives that analyse the soul of the human being. Dialogues between Goya and Cabellut. They speak to us of fear, envy, friendship, love, violence, ideology, politics, chaos, old age, ambition, power, loyalty. And they do so by shedding light on these concepts. A metaphorical light that accompanies us as we delve into the human condition, and a plastic light essential to understanding their way of ‘understanding’ art.”

Lita Cabellut (1961, Spain) is a broad-based artist who lives and works in the Netherlands, where she was named Artist of the Year 2021. As a full-fledged artist, her artistic activity spans multiple disciplines. She is recognized as the third most sought-after Spanish artist and her works have been exhibited in numerous museums around the world.
