Martine Franck. Looking at Others
Martine Franck’s ambitious photographic oeuvre (1938-2012) and her genuine fascination with humanity – from the joys of childhood to portraits of workers, feminist struggles, Buddhist spirituality and the elderly – lie at the heart of this exhibition. This project titled ‘Martine Franck. Looking at Others’ is scheduled to take place from 9th March to 2nd June 2024, in the ‘Cantine’ halls of the Fort Bard.
The exhibition is the culmination of an unprecedented project undertaken and curated by the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation at the request of the Forte di Bard Association. Featuring over 180 pieces, it is divided into 7 sections weaving together shots of the stages of life, political demonstrations, feminist struggles and landscapes close to her heart. A tribute to one of the world’s greatest female photographers.
Curated by Clément Chéroux, Director of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation, the exhibition aims to spotlight Martine Franck’s significant contribution as a female photographer and to celebrate her most renowned photographic images depicting childhood, old age and the world of theatre, some of which have attained iconic status.
